Amana Colonies

The Amana Colonies Convention and Visitors Bureau approached us to redevelop their existing website. The were looking for a new look and feel for their website that reflected the uniqueness and history of the Amana Colonies. At the same time they needed a site that would serve as the main resource of information for all potential visitors.

Business Directory

At the heart of the new Amana Colonies website is the business directory system. Amana is home to dozens of retail shops, restaurants and bed & breakfasts. We needed to be able highlight all of these unique businesses in an easy-to-use and informative directory system. Users are able to browse businesses by category and see basic information about each business including contact information, photos, descriptions, and a map of the businesses location.

One of the challenges with a system of this nature is maintenance. We developed a module that would allow each business on the website to submit their own information electronically. This allows the Visitor Center to preview the requested changes and approve them with a click of a button. This system dramatically reduced the amount of time required to maintain the site while also giving the individual businesses more control over how their business is presented on the site.

Upcoming Events System

The Amana Colonies are home to many outstanding events throughout the year. We created a system that makes it easy for visitors to sort through and learn about all of the upcoming events.

We also linked the upcoming events system with the business directory system so that individual businesses could submit their own events. This gives visitors complete access to all of the happenings within the Amana Colonies while at the same time reducing the maintenance requirements of the website.
