Clopsy

Clopsy is Small Dot Studio's first Software as a Service (SaaS) application. It was developed for the eyewear and optical industry and helps opticians to track their customer's orders.

It's one of our more unique projects because it wasn't developed for a client.  Clopsy actually started off as a side project of our founder, Sam Schrup.  When the project showed potential, we put the full resources of Small Dot behind it and developed a complete brand identity and awesome user interface.

The result is a nimble, yet powerful, internet application with the potential to improve the customer service of independent optical stores throughout the nation.

Keep It Simple

Most software programs that cater to the optical industry take the "do everything under the sun" approach.  The result is that they often do a couple of things really well, most things average, and a few things really, really bad.  Unfortunately, keeping track of customer orders seems to be one of those things that is often added as an afterthought.

With Clopsy, Sam knew that it needed to be simple to be effective. He developed the software to do one thing, but do it really, really well. With that dedication to simplicity in mind, he paired down the software requirements to the bare minimum.  This philosophy produced order tracking software that is incredibly easy to use and very efficient.

Alerts Are The Key

The Alert System of Clopsy wasn't actually in the original design but developed into one of its more innovative features.  The system keeps track of the most common issues associated with customer orders (delays at the lab, notification of patients etc.) and automatically alerts the opticians when certain criteria are met.  This can dramatically improve customer service of an office by alerting the optician to potential issues and  allowing them to be more proactive fixing any problem orders.

The Final Result

Clopsy was a fantastic to work on because it's pretty rare when we get to work on a project with "no budget".  Basically, if we could think of a feature that would improve Clopsy, we built and integrated it.

There were a lot of challenges with this project, but by utilizing the latest development techniques and code technologies we were able to develop an advance internet application.  But don't take our word for it.  If you're in the optical industry, you should give Clopsy a try! After all, it has a 30-day free trial.
